This Photonic Universe 30A advanced DC-DC Battery Charger is fully automatic and ideal for leisure vehicles, commercial and special purpose vehicles, boats, and any other systems with multiple 12V batteries or power sources. The charger operates using an adjustable three-stage charging programme and is suitable for Lead Acid, AGM, Gel, LiFePO4, and Lithium-ion (NCM) batteries. The product is compact, light-weight and features high frequency switching and buck-boost power conversion technology for reliable, consistent performance.

The charger comes with a powerful built-in MPPT solar charge controller, enhancing its capability with additional charging from solar panels. The unit will charge the target battery from solar panels whenever the DC-to-DC charging is not active. This is useful in applications where the DC-to-DC charging function is not used for significant periods of time, such as when a vehicle is parked or in storage, or when supplementary charging from solar panels is needed. MPPT technology of this charger extracts the energy from solar panels with the maximum efficiency which significantly exceeds efficiency of other non-MPPT chargers. The solar charging function will also provide a trickle charge to the source battery to prevent it from self-discharging.

Key Features:

  • Fully-automatic, high-frequency, multi-stage charging: ensures the battery is charged safely and quickly. Pulsed charging keeps temperatures low and evens electrolyte consistency to ensure a long battery life.

  • Efficient 20A MPPT solar charge controller: the controller specifically pinpoints the maximum power voltage point of the solar panel(s) as it varies depending on sunlight exposure and temperature. This ensures the maximum output from the solar panels and shorter charging times.

  • Easy battery type selection: with the use of dip switches, the unit can be switched between Lead Acid, AGM, Gel, LiFePO4, or Lithium-ion battery types.

  • Safe unattended charging: the unit features inbuilt safety functions (protection against overload, overheating, overvoltage, over-discharge, short circuit, and reverse discharge of the battery), that allow the charger to be left permanently connected to the batteries for unattended automatic charging.

  • Advanced temperature protection and compensation: when paired with an optional external temperature sensor (sold separately), the charger provides advanced temperature protection for Lead Acid batteries. The battery will be charged at varying voltages to compensate for voltage loss during temperature changes. For Lithium batteries, the temperature sensor unlocks a charging protection to be selected to prevent charging when below 0°C which could damage the battery.

  • Data monitoring: the charger includes ports for a remote meter or a Bluetooth module (both sold separately), allowing data to be viewed on an LCD display or through a mobile phone app when connected.

  • Continued charging during battery/load use: the charger will continue to operate at full power whilst energy is drawn from the battery during use. The unit will maintain the charge if the battery is already at full capacity. Any 12V loads may also be left permanently connected and running whilst the DC-to-DC charger is in operation, and will be protected against overvoltage and voltage fluctuations.

  • Ignition on/off control: via connection to the ignition control through the D+ terminal, this charger can be set to begin battery-to-battery charging immediately when vehicle ignition is turned on, and stop charging when the vehicle is turned off.

  • Wake-up function for Lithium batteries: when the Battery Management System (BMS) of a lithium battery goes into the protection mode, the charger can automatically activate the BMS and continue charging the lithium battery.

Additional features:

A high efficiency built-in MPPT solar charge controller is included in the device to enhance charging capabilities to the target battery from solar panels whenever DC-to-DC charging is not active, such as when the vehicle is parked up or in storage. It will also provide a trickle charge to the starter battery to protect against self-discharge.

This charger can provide a signal for an external relay (not supplied), so that when the target battery is connected to a heavy load, the battery banks can be directly connected to each other, allowing the source battery to assist the target battery in starting high-current electrical loads.

It features optional terminals that enable greater precision in voltage measurement of the target battery by bypassing the voltage drops in heavy-duty charging cables.

The charger includes 5 LED indicators to display the solar charging state, battery charging stage, and diagnostic information.

Compatibility:

This DC-to-DC battery charger is suitable for use with 12V lead acid, AGM, Gel, LiFePO4, and Lithium-ion (NCM) batteries. It is not compatible with 24V batteries or a combination of 12V and 24V batteries.
