Function:

The Victron Energy Filax 2 Transfer Switch CE 230 V / 50 Hz – 240 V / 60 Hz is an automatic transfer switch designed to switch sensitive electrical loads between two AC power sources. It is particularly suitable for equipment such as computers, modern entertainment systems and other sensitive electronic devices where an uninterrupted power supply is important.

The priority source will typically be mains electricity, a generator, or shore power, while the alternate source is usually an inverter. With a maximum transfer time of just 16 milliseconds, the Filax 2 can transfer the load between the two sources with minimal interruption, helping sensitive equipment continue to operate without disruption.

The Filax 2 is designed for sensitive electronic loads and is not intended for high-power household appliances such as washing machines or electric motors.

Open transition transfer

The Filax 2 uses an open transition (break-before-make) switching method, meaning the connection to the existing power source is disconnected before the alternate source is connected.

Under normal operation, the load is supplied by the priority AC source. The Filax 2 automatically transfers the load to the alternate source if the priority source falls outside its specified voltage or frequency limits.

Transfer to the alternate source occurs when:

• The voltage of the priority source drops below the specified threshold.
   
• The frequency of the priority source falls below the low-frequency threshold or rises above the high-frequency threshold.

The maximum load transfer time is 16 ms, allowing the Filax 2 to provide rapid automatic switching between the two AC sources.

Automatic return to the priority source

Once the priority source returns to within the specified voltage and frequency limits, the Filax 2 will automatically transfer the load back from the alternate source.

The priority source must remain within the required voltage and frequency limits for 30 seconds before the reverse transfer takes place. This helps ensure the priority source has stabilised before the load is transferred back.
