Function:
The Victron Energy Smart Battery Sense is a wireless battery voltage and temperature sensor designed for use with compatible Victron MPPT solar chargers. By measuring the voltage and temperature directly at the battery, it helps ensure the correct charging voltage is applied, improving charging efficiency and helping to prolong battery life.
The Smart Battery Sense connects wirelessly to one or more compatible Victron solar chargers using VE.Smart Network, based on Bluetooth Smart technology. This eliminates the need for additional communication wiring between the battery and solar charger, making installation simple and tidy.
Accurate battery voltage measurement
By measuring voltage directly at the battery terminals, the Smart Battery Sense compensates for voltage losses caused by resistance in the cables between the battery and solar charger. This allows the solar charger to use a more accurate battery voltage when determining the appropriate charging voltage.
Battery temperature monitoring
Battery temperature information allows charging parameters to be adjusted according to the battery temperature. For lead-acid batteries, the charging voltage can be increased when the battery is cold and decreased when it is hot.
For lithium batteries, the temperature information can be used to prevent charging when the battery temperature is too low. Charging lithium batteries at or below freezing temperatures can cause permanent damage to the cells.
Wireless VE.Smart Network
The Smart Battery Sense communicates wirelessly with compatible Victron solar chargers using VE.Smart Network. The battery voltage and temperature information can be shared simultaneously with one, two or more compatible solar chargers connected to the same 12V, 24V, or 48V battery bank.
The VE.Smart Network is configured using the VictronConnect app, providing a simple way to connect the Smart Battery Sense to compatible Victron equipment.
Simple and tidy installation
Installation is quick and straightforward. The two cable eyelets are connected directly to the battery terminals, while the Smart Battery Sense unit can be secured to the battery using its integrated self-adhesive mounting strip.
This provides an easy-to-install solution for applications where accurate battery voltage and temperature information is required without the need for additional wiring between the battery and solar charger.
